Abstract:

Prince George’s County, Department of the Environment is required to implement many stormwater management restoration projects in order to comply with the water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act. The USEPA is requiring counties and municipalities to address stormwater restoration for urban areas that have limited water quality controls and document the progress. To implement and track a program that could include 1000’s of projects, a project tracking and control system was needed. The need is being managed through the implementation of a Project and Portfolio Management System utilizing SharePoint and Microsoft Project Professional on a networked Project Server platform. This paper explores the limitations and what was done to work around them, achieving by-in from management and project managers alike (some with limited PM knowledge), and addressing IT security concerns working through a consultant to configure the PPM structure on the County’s network.
