Abstract:

UMD research on Multidimensional Portfolio Management is being implemented within the US Department of Defense. This presentation will discuss modeling efforts for optimization of funding across the multidimensional enterprise portfolio schema, as outlined in the research along the Value Chain. The paper will discuss how the ontology is needed for both vertical and horizontal integration, with specific examples in an interaction with the audience. We will discuss the challenges of optimization within an uncertainty framework that preserves options.

Participants will gain several takeaways:

  1. Learn evolving strategies for handling complex optimization challenges that consider customers’ changing needs that go beyond classic risk analysis.
  2. Learn the critical need to develop an ontology that allows for horizontal and vertical integration from project, to program, to portfolio, and then across the enterprise.
  3. Understand the change management challenge of integrating across functional data stovepipes.
