Paper and Presentation: It’s No Longer Enough To Simply Be Agile
Abstract: A tremendous amount of literature has been published about the merits of agile development practices. But in today’s environment, agile development practices are being quickly supplemented with major technology breakthroughs that enhance software quality, improve enterprise performance and provide business resiliency. This paper and presentation describes three of these breakthroughs; micro-services architectures, cloud computing, and DevOps practices. A brief overview of the technology, the obtainable benefits, and required implementation steps will be provided for each technology. The paper and presentation will close with a discussion of how all of these technologies, working together, can provide tangible benefits to any Information Technology (IT) based, agile development organization.

Biography: Dr. Morgan has 39 years of systems engineering and project management experience. While serving in the United States Navy and then employed with IBM, Lockheed Martin and currently General Dynamics, he has assisted numerous Department of Defense and Intelligence Community customers in the management and execution of their information technology portfolios. Supplementing his experience, he has received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of Florida, a Master’s degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and a Doctorate degree in Systems Engineering from the George Washington University. Dr. Morgan’s industry certifications include the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional certification, the International Council on Systems Engineering Expert System Engineering Professional certification, and multiple agile and Amazon Web Services certifications.
