Abstract: Effective New Product Development Portfolio Management process is essential to achieve financial goals and provide continuous growth to the organization through innovation.

The process of selecting and prioritizing New Product Development projects hinges on early decisions that are often challenged by a high degree of uncertainty. To strive in a constantly changing environment, a forward-looking approach is needed to inform the decision-making process. Dynamic optimization is fundamental to quickly adjust course, including decisions to terminate, reprioritize, or delay projects.

Best practices in operations management applied to New Product Development Portfolio Management can support making better decisions for the successful execution of the portfolio. Process analysis, Lean and Six Sigma tools and principles can help identifying opportunities for improvement and support portfolio prioritization and optimization to maximize the throughput of value.

Biography: Marina Prasek, PMP is the Director of Project Management at MaxCyte, with responsibility for New Product Development projects, processes, and portfolios.

Prior to joining MaxCyte, Marina was Senior Manager of Program Management at Thermo Fisher Scientific where she was responsible for portfolio and program management of New Product Development projects.

Before Thermo Fisher Scientific, Marina held positions of progressively increasing responsibility at Mettler-Toledo AutoChem culminating in becoming the Global Project Office Manager. She led the development and market introduction of several new products and was the owner of project management processes, championing improvement initiatives and developing and delivering training workshops on Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Marina held roles in product management at Smiths Detection where she managed lifecycle, development, and integration of analytical products for the defense market.

Before joining the corporate world, Marina was an active researcher and teacher in academia and her work resulted in several publications.

Marina is an active member of the PMI community. She has served on the board of PMI Southern Maryland Chapter since 2017 in various positions and is currently completing her term as Past-President.

Marina has a Laurea of Doctor in Chemistry from the University of Genova, Italy. She specialized in Organic and Physical Chemistry and furthered her knowledge in analytical instrumentation in her post-doctoral research work. She also earned her Certificate in Operations Management from Cornell University.
