Abstract:

In today’s fast paced business world, leaders are consumed with the many responsibilities associated with leading their business and ensuring that they stay competitive in their particular industry. Integrity, morality and ethical behavior, often take a back seat to profitability, market domination, and growing the business as oftentimes leaders and their organizations are only interested in meeting the minimum legal standards that will allow them to continue operating.

According to Sharma, et. al., (2019), the ability of a business to be efficient, perform well, remain effective, and achieve overall organizational success is directly linked to the ethical attitude of its leadership and the leader’s approach to ascertaining a competitive advantage.

Despite the popular belief that profit trumps everything in an organization, ethical leaders grasp the true importance of creating a profitable organization while upholding ethical standards that ensure the leader and the organization are in compliance and creating the best environment for all members to thrive and be successful. According to Sharma, et. al., (2019), it is the leader who must adopt the right approaches and path to ethically achieving predefined organizational goals while demonstrating the ability to achieve excellence in their performance despite the actions of their competitors.
