Abstract: Have you ever entered a project or program mid-stream and had to correct course? What can you do differently to set yourself up for success for future projects and programs? How can you plan ahead and raise awareness for all stakeholders? Join Nicole Rumeau and Courtney Johnson, Assistant Directors of Pre- and Post- Award Management at the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland to discuss developing dynamic, cross-functional portfolio planning through comprehensive kickoff planning and execution. The presenters will engage attendees in developing a sample internal kickoff plan based on a mock award. Attendees will walk away from the session with kickoff planning materials and practical understanding of how to plan ahead for success.

Biography: Nicole Rumeau is an accomplished research administration leader with over 20 years of experience in sponsored program management, compliance oversight, and organizational leadership at the University of Maryland. In her role at Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland, she leads pre-award operations and award compliance strategy supporting classified and unclassified research funded by the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Previously, Nicole served in several leadership roles at the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland as a member of the executive and strategic direction committees, directing departmental operations, co-directing the project management office, and managing federal education initiatives.
Ms. Rumeau holds a Master’s of Arts in international relations from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School with a concentration in intercultural communication and negotiations and a Bachelor’s of Arts in French language and literature from the University of Maryland, College Park.
