The Impact of Leadership Behavior – Clark and Green
Paper Title:
The Impact of Leadership Behavior
Abstract:
Leadership behavior encompasses the culture of the organization, its mission and vision as well as its goals and the ability of the organization to ascertain those goals. Leaders are the operators of the organization and provide guidance just as the operator of a vehicle, steer, direct, and control speed. Without effective leadership the organization is left with poor guidance and will not move in the direction of prosperity and success. “Leader’s behaviors are very important to accomplish efficient work conditions and organizational culture. In this era, the new leadership style highlights the importance of virtue and morality” (Demirtas, & Akdogan, 2014, pg. 60).
Leaders are the focal point of the organization and as such their followers are impacted greatly by their choices as these choices determines the destiny of the organization and its employees. Leadership behavior is of great interest to me as I understand the importance of my position and how my decisions determine the success of my subordinates’ careers and how successful my organization will be. Being a leader is a position that I personally take very seriously and understand that I am in the view of all that follow me as well as my colleagues and it is important for my career to be exemplary and one in which my behavior is marked with moral and ethical decisions. “Ethical leadership refers to the display of behaviors consistent with appropriate norms, which are visible through leader’s actions and relationships” (Demirtas, & Akdogan, 2014, pg. 59). The impact of leadership behavior is one that has ripple effects across the entire organization and that touches every employee, stakeholder, and community in which the organization serves.
