Abstract: Have you ever entered a project or program mid-stream and had to correct course? What can you do differently to set yourself up for success for future projects and programs? How can you plan ahead and raise awareness for all stakeholders? Join Nicole Rumeau and Courtney Johnson, Assistant Directors of Pre- and Post-Award Management at the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland, to discuss developing dynamic, cross-functional portfolio planning through comprehensive kickoff planning and execution. The presenters will engage attendees in developing a sample internal kickoff plan based on a mock award. Attendees will walk away from the session with kickoff planning materials and a practical understanding of how to plan ahead for success.

Biography: Courtney Johnson is the Assistant Director of Post Award Project Management at the University of Maryland’s Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), where she has worked for two years managing the execution and monitoring of a highly classified portfolio of intelligence and security research projects valued at $75 million. This portfolio includes projects from the Department of War and various Intelligence Agencies.

Prior to joining ARLIS, Ms. Johnson dedicated ten years of service to the federal government as a program manager at the General Services Administration (GSA). There, she played a pivotal role in overseeing high-profile appropriations, including the Public Buildings Fund, the Presidential Transition Support Fund, and the Former President’s Fund.

Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Loyola University Maryland.
